Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS AN ANTENATAL & POSTPARTUM DOULA?
Antenatal and postpartum doula’s specialise in the phases pre and post birth. We are trained to support you and your partner emotionally, physically and educationally. We do not give medical advice or perform clinical tasks. We prepare you for birth and hold space for you while you hold your baby.
Antenatally we work on your individual birth imprints and look at your personal fears towards birth, untying any knots or working through any confusion.
We are your friend, your community and your village. We celebrate the small wins and walk with you on the tough days. We highlight the importance of rest and recovery enabling you to show up and be your best version of a mother. We provide you with resources and focus on strategies to help sustain a healthy mindset.
The kind of support we provide looks different for each family and we tailor to the individuals unique needs. We accept and honour whatever decision you make throughout your matrescence experience because this is YOUR journey.
WHO DOES A POSTPARTUM DOULA SUPPORT?
Postpartum doula’s focus on women centred care, but ultimately support the entire family. We hold particular space for the mama, because when we have a happy thriving mum we tend to see a happy thriving family.
DOES A DOULA REPLACE THE PARTNERS ROLL?
Doula’s do not replace the roll of your partner, we enhance it. Doulas provide partners with creative support suggestions, because we understand that it can be overwhelming seeing a loved one in a difficult position. Doulas ensure the partner feels safe so they have the ability to show up confident for the mother.
Im currently completing my doula training with The Australian Doula College and a postpartum specific course called Newborn Mothers.
